about

This section contrasts love in youth and in age. The sections are: 14 Lines and Void (both by Frances Lee) young love, framed by an extract from St Helen’s, an instrumental piece which can be heard on the album TR626DX9: edwardlee.bandcamp.com/album/tr626dx9-pieces-for-nice-day; How do I love thee? (Elizabeth Barrett Browning) – needs no introduction, juxtaposed with Damage (Frances Lee) – living with successful cancer treatment; When You are Old and Grey (words: W B Yeats, music: Edward Lee) equally famous, but show ing love at the other end of life. Again juxtaposed with everyday modern reality -Dinner for two (Frances Lee), Haiku (Frances Lee), and Dinner for One (Frances Lee); Poem (words: Mary Horton, music: Edward Lee). (This piece is also to be found on the album Island. – ending on a positive note In the words of Tennyson: “It is better to have loved and lost/Than never to have loved at all”
